Museo PEM Pill’ ‘e Mata

Art direction, Corporate identity, Creative direction

The PEM – Pill’ ‘e Mata Necropolis Museum is a new archaeological museum located on the outskirts of Cagliari, the capital of Sardinia, at the heart of the Mediterranean. Established to protect the remains of a mysterious necropolis dating back to the 4th century BCE, the museum narrates an eight-century-long story of human history and cultural evolution.
Multiforme was commissioned to design the visual identity and multimedia exhibition of the museum.

The museum’s logo is inspired by the concept of decomposition and fragments, reflecting both archaeological artifacts and the disjointed syllables of the museum’s name, which are etched in a fragmented style on the marble facade. The double apostrophe present in the name has been synthesized in the logo as a cuneiform-like mark, evoking ancient lapidary inscriptions. Additionally, the architecture of the museum – designed by Palterer Medardi Architecture – has influenced the logo’s design, suggesting ideas of faceting and distortion that mirror the building’s distinctive structure.
